AGM & Leadership Update

The Saskatchewan Retail Petroleum Construction Association (SRPCA) held its Annual General Meeting on June 12th at the beautiful Dakota Dunes Golf Course and Resort.

We were pleased to recognize Arlene Wright for her many years of dedicated service as President. On behalf of the Board and members, we extend our heartfelt thanks and appreciation for her leadership and hard work.

During the meeting, I was honoured to be elected as the new President of SRPCA, and I look forward to working together with our members to build on the strong foundation Arlene has established.

Training & Industry Collaboration

The AGM program featured a presentation by Michelle Rae of CPCA, who provided updates on petroleum mechanic training. Members expressed strong interest in participating in future training initiatives, with CPCA aiming to schedule review and exam sessions later this year or in early 2026.

Golf Tournament Success & Community Support

Our annual golf tournament was a tremendous success. Participants enjoyed a fantastic day on the course while helping to raise funds for two important causes. Proceeds supported the Heart & Stroke Foundation and also provided assistance to those affected by the forest fires in Northern Saskatchewan.

We were also pleased to host the event in conjunction with the Canadian Propane Association, creating an excellent opportunity for members of both the petroleum and propane industries to connect and collaborate.

Thank you to all who attended, supported, and sponsored this event. Your generosity and involvement truly make a difference, both within our industry and in our communities.

The OPCA hosted its annual Golf Tournament on September 12th at Tyandaga Golf Course in Burlington. With over 90 players in attendance — a record turnout — the event was a tremendous success.

Proceeds supported Threads of Life, an organization that assists families affected by workplace tragedies, life-altering injuries, and occupational disease. Supporting Threads of Life reflects OPCA’s strong commitment to safety and reinforces the importance of fostering a culture of prevention in our industry.

We were honoured to welcome Georgina Murphy, Regional Development Coordinator for Central Canada at Threads of Life, who spoke about the impact of OPCA’s support and highlighted that our members have now contributed over $100,000 to the organization.

The day was filled with great camaraderie, friendly competition, and lots of fun. Congratulations to all our tournament winners! While no one walked away with the $50,000 hole-in-one prize sponsored by BrokerLink, the excitement around the contest added plenty of buzz to the course. Players also enjoyed testing their skills in the putting contest, where everyone competed for a Yeti cooler prize.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to everyone who joined us for this special event — and an extra thanks to our generous sponsors, whose support makes this tournament possible year after year. We look forward to building on this momentum and seeing even more of you next year!

Regulatory Update

Municipal Affairs has published a Standata clarifying the requirement to conduct periodic inspections of dispensing equipment. In the past, some regulators required service station operators to access underground sumps weekly to meet Fire Code inspection obligations. This practice raised both logistical and safety concerns for station staff.

APSSCA’s committee of members worked with government officials to demonstrate that underground equipment is already being effectively monitored electronically. This electronic oversight more than satisfies the intent of visual inspections. Members can visit the APSSCA website to review the full Standata.

AGM Highlights

APSSCA held its Annual General Meeting in June, in conjunction with the annual golf tournament. The AGM was well attended, with guest speakers including:

  • Colin Clark of Plenum Group gave a very informative presentation on the cyber risks of doing business.
  • Joe Muniz, National Energy Equipment – who addressed common issues with petroleum equipment including submersible tank pumps.
  • Michelle Rae, CPCA – who provided updates on POST initiatives and developments.
  • We are also pleased to welcome Sean Swanney, Keller Equipment, to the APSSCA Board.

25th Annual Golf Tournament

This year marked our 25th Annual Golf Tournament—and our most successful one yet! Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors and participants, we raised an outstanding $28,000 in support of Kids Cancer Care. This remarkable achievement highlights the strength of our community coming together for a great cause.

A huge thank you goes out to our sponsors:

Gold Sponsors: BGIS, Keller Equipment Supply Ltd., National Energy Equipment

Silver Sponsors: Bar W Petroleum & Electric, Cornerstone Petroleum Equipment, Leak Technologies Solutions, Precision Petroleum

Bronze Sponsors: Canadian Petroleum Contractors Association, Foremost, OPW Retail Fueling

We are grateful to our volunteers, organizing team, and all members who attended the AGM and joined us on the course. Your support made this milestone event truly unforgettable.

We look forward to building on this momentum for next year’s tournament!
