APSSCA’s Annual General Meeting was the best attended in the Association’s recent history, with 40 members and guests on hand. There was strong interest in hearing about progress toward training for oil-burning equipment installers and inspectors.

The National Fire Code has been amended to defer requirements for standby generator and fire pump fuel supply systems to CSA B139, Installation Code for Oil-Burning Equipment, which provides more specific guidance for the construction of these systems. It is expected that the Alberta Fire Code will adopt the NFC at its next publication, further highlighting the need for contractors and inspectors to receive training specific to these fuel supply systems. Michelle Rae of OPCA and CPCA provided the Alberta group with an update on the status of the training materials currently under development.

For the first time, APSSCA’s annual golf tournament was held in the Edmonton area. While there was some uncertainty about how the new location would be received, the June 10 tournament at Coloniale Golf Club in Beaumont attracted one of the event’s best turnouts.

APSSCA was also pleased to continue its tradition of supporting organizations that provide services to children fighting cancer. The Association’s Calgary tournaments have supported Kids Cancer Care for many years, and this year APSSCA was proud to raise $25,000 for the Kids With Cancer Society, which serves families throughout northern Alberta. Many thanks to the member sponsors whose generous support made this possible.

APSSCA also extends a special welcome to its newest Board member, Ben Gonie of Petrocom Construction in Edmonton.
